Our
Story

The Seaside Housing Collaborative (SHC) was founded by the Seaside City Council on October 7, 2021. The organization was incorporated for the purpose of producing housing that is affordable, through the entire development process—acquisition of land, project development, and property management.

As a 501c3, SHC is governed by a Board of Directors. Its six-member board consists of the mayor, city manager, and four Seaside residents serving three-year terms. The Board of Directors currently serving are:

•    Director Ian N. Oglesby, Chair
•    Director Brenda Thomas, Vice Chair
•    Director Greg McDanel
•    Director Mitch Winnick
•    Director Reginald Garnett
•    Director Rosemary Soto

The organization’s inaugural meeting was held on February 23, 2023. SHC meets on a monthly basis on the third Thursday at 10:00am at the Oldemeyer Center (986 Hilby Ave Seaside, CA 93955). All SHC meetings are open to the public and adhere to the Brown Act’s provisions. Agendas are posted outside of Seaside City Hall (440 Harcourt Ave), outside of the Oldemeyer Center (986 Hilby Ave), and outside the Seaside Library (550 Harcourt Ave).

The establishment of a subsidiary non-profit by a local government offers a unique and dynamic solution to addressing the housing shortage facing Seaside and California as a whole. The City of Seaside’s Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA) for the 6th Housing Element Cycle (2023-2031) by income level is as follows:

•    Above Moderate: 319
•    Moderate: 156
•    Low: 55
•    Very Low: 86

The Seaside Housing Collaborative will continue working towards the provision of housing within the City of Seaside. Members of the public are encouraged to participate in meetings and stay tuned.
